This year marks our 59th, consecutive year of bringing the joy of Christmas to our community children. Founded in 1965, the F. Ruth Moore, Volunteer Service Organization, Inc. remains one of, if not the oldest continual Christmas party for underprivileged children in the city of Los Angeles. As of 2023 we have humbly served over 121,500 inner city at risk children while encouraging them to “STAY IN SCHOOL…” “JUST SAY NO! TO DRUGS, ALCOHOL and GANGS…” BE KIND and RESPECTFUL TO OTHERS…” “HONOR YOUR FATHER and MOTHER…” and many other positive messages that need constant reinforcement.
The focus of our organization is to build and reinforce self-esteem and self-respect in our children. The biggest reward is having many of these youngsters that once sat in the audience full of hope and facing an unknown future come back to say that we made a difference in their lives. It is our belief that in reaching out to our youth on a consistent basis, with a positive message will make them see that difference and give them the desire and the confidence to succeed.
Our entire program is accomplished through the efforts of dedicated volunteers, many of which have been a part of the organization for over a quarter of a century.
We are funded solely through donations. We operate with no overhead. All contributions over minimal cost are spent to ensure that the party is a success for the children. We are a 501 (c)(3) organization in good standing, and hold a current nonprofit status with the state of California. Our nonprofit tax identification number is, FED ID #95-3885391.
My mother, F. Ruth Moore, founder of the organization, made this dream a reality for twenty-eight of its forty-five years. With her passing in 1994, my vow to continue her work and uplift our youth has been my primary focus. Until October of 1998, I accomplished this with the assistance of her 47-year soul mate and loving husband, my dad William “Prince” Moore. Now that they are together for eternity, the dream is mine to continue, but I can only succeed with your help.
We need the continued support of our local businesses and concerned citizens to help us make the difference in the lives of the next generation who are our future and the future of the world. When all else is in question…Our children must know that we will always care.
“God loves you, and so do we…”
